Best Place to Escape Winter: Staniel Cay, Exuma Bahamas | Depart Fashion's Trip Report
Winter has not been bad in New York, but it is always great to escape to somewhere sunny. The best place to cure your winter blues is Exuma Islands especially a two-mile island called Staniel Cay. To me, this was one of my favorite vacations because it was all about location.
Traveling to the Bahamas & Exuma
There are a couple of ways to get to Staniel Cay from the United States. The first and easiest way to get to Staniel Cay is to fly to Nassau, Bahamas and take Flamingo Air to Staniel Cay. A second option would be flying out of Atlanta to the Exuma Islands and take the ferry over to the islands. Last but not least is you could fly out of Fort Lauderdale and take Watermakers Air which would be traveling in style.
Staying in Exuma
If you do not have a Yacht to dock at Staniel Cay, you are in luck. This remote island is home to twelve bungalows which are range from single-story to two-story suites tucked away amongst tropical foliage looking over the crystal, blue ocean. We stayed in the Blue Bungalow which was perfect because you were able to enjoy the sunset while sipping on Bahama Pina Colada. You can pay for lodging only, but we optioned for the package which includes three meals per day with one non-alcoholic beverage per meal. These prices also include taxes and gratuities also to ground transportation, skiff, fuel, snorkeling gear, bicycles, kayaks and much more.
Activities on Staniel Cay
This island has something for everyone. You can explore the island by golf cart and find a remote part of the island to swim and soak in the sun. If you are the athletic type, the crystal clear water would be fun to explore the sandbar or coral life. And of course, don’t forget the swimming pigs!
Even though our trip was short because of a tropical storm, I had the time of my life on this piece of heaven. If you are thinking about traveling to Exuma and have any questions, don't hesitate to ask me.
